The story of Anchor 📚
From the heart of the West Country, Anchor Butter was created in Westbury, Wiltshire. We’ve been churning milk and salt since 1886 – and you’d butter believe there are the only two ingredients in our delicious blocks of butter.
The original recipe was created over 100 years ago by Harry Reynolds, a Cornish dairyman who was inspired to name the brand Anchor because of a tattoo on one of the worker’s arms.
And the rest, as they say, is history.

Anchor is primarily farmer-owned, and our products come from the sunny green hills of Westbury, Wiltshire. When buying our products, you’ll know you have a direct hand in helping to support British hard-working farmers and their families.
The original block of creamy Anchor butter was created by Harry Reynolds, a Cornish dairyman turned farm owner, and we’ve remained true to our roots to this day, leaving our butter in the hands of farmers to continue providing the creamiest and tastiest of products.
